Spring 2023 Rummage Info

Updated 5.1.23

During rummage week, the ringers will begin Tuesday evening with setting up the yellow shelving and tables at the end of practice.  Wednesday, we will be bringing up rummage from the basement storage area, sorting, organizing and setting it out on tables for display. Thursday, we will finish up the small items area and move all furniture up from basement storage. Both parents and ringers are expected to volunteer during rummage week for the set-up, sale, and clean-up. Parents will receive an email from Sign-up Genius for scheduling and ringers will sign up for shifts during practice.

Trish has volunteered to coordinate meals and snacks donated by parents - please use venmo or send $20 with your ringer to practice on Tuesday night.

Liz has volunteered to oversee the Bake Sale (receiving & packaging / labeling donated items) - please use the SignUpGenius to indicate what you are planning to bring.

There is a mandatory parent meeting planned for Saturday at noon to discuss tour.  You'll want to update your ringer's medical forms and get important planning & packing info!

Be prepared to stick around after the parent meeting for clean-up and driving leftover donations to drop-off locations after the sale. We need all hands on deck for set-up and clean-up!

Below are a few reminders, some of which are new this year - please read!

SAFETY:
Wear closed toe shoes and work clothes.  We have some work gloves available but feel free to bring your own!

Be careful opening bags & boxes that may have sharp / dangerous items. Watch for broken glass.

Be careful lifting boxes that may not have the bottom sealed. If it's heavy, ask a friend to help.

When building the big yellow shelving unit, move slowly and watch in all directions so nobody gets hurt. If you are trying to install or remove one of the shelf bars, make sure someone else has a good grip on the other end.

During the sale, we do not allow volunteers to help tie down large items on top of vehicles / in truck beds because it is a liability issue.

DUMPSTERS:
There are two dumpsters ordered Weds 5/3 - Mon 5/8 and we want to fill them up as efficiently and safely as we can.  We also want to be as "green" as possible.  If something is still usable, please save it for leftover donations.  If it is broken or obviously garbage, it can go to the dumpster.  Please do not toss things over the top!  Please go through the open door and stack it as high as possible moving from the back wall toward the open door.

These are the items NOT allowed in the dumpsters:

  • No hazardous or toxic waste.
  • No tires, refrigerators, freezers, microwaves.
  • No e-waste! (audio / stereo equipment, cell phones, computers, printers, phones, fax/copy machines, TVs, monitors, VCRs, DVD players, video cameras, video game consoles, wireless devices)

PERSONAL ITEMS:
During setup, we won't have access to Room 100 (the chapel) until Thursday night so this year, we will have you put your personal items and purchases in the north east corner of the gym in the "HOLDS" area.  When you are sorting and finding treasures before the sale... be sure to grab an empty box and write your name on it!  Please do not leave treasure piles lined up along the walls of the gym because they WILL get moved either back onto the sales floor or just disappear.  Once the sale has begun, all personal items and purchases should be stored in the CHAPEL instead of gym / kitchen.  This is partly because we need the kitchen space for meal prep but also because things tend to disappear once the public arrives and/or get thrown away at the end of the sale in a clean-up frenzy.

PURCHASES:
We want to have all ringer purchases complete on Weds / Thurs nights so you can take them home before the sale whenever possible.  You can pay the cashiers or treasurer - cash, check, or Venmo accepted.

SALE TIPS:
When the sale begins, we direct all customers to the cashiers rather than having volunteers on the floor accept money.  We also ask that ringers not make deals with customers - they need to direct them to the cashier instead.  Ringers are not allowed to receive tips.

Ringers are "on-call" to assist customers with many items / larger items to their vehicle - listen for the cashier station to ring a bell or call for help.

It is helpful to keep a suggested price list on your phone when customers ask for information.  (You can download price lists below:)
