SETUP & SAFETY
  • Wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty!

  •  There are some work gloves available, but feel free to bring your own!

  • Be careful opening bags & boxes that may have sharp items.  Watch for broken glass!

  • Be careful lifting boxes that may not have the bottom sealed.

  • Bring up glass items (on basement shelves along the far wall) toward the END of Weds night so things are less likely to be in the way / get broken.
  • Bring up heavy book boxes at the very end of setup so they are not in the way during sorting. Those are the last small items to be organized after we move the sorting tables.

"BIG YELLOW MONSTER"

When building the big yellow shelving unit, move slowly and communicate!  Watch in all directions when moving it up & down the stairwells, rounding corners, etc.  If you are trying to install or remove shelf bars, make sure someone else has a good grip on the other end. This job requires teamwork and safety so everyone keeps their teeth and nobody gets concussed!

    DUMPSTER Do's & Dont's

DO fill the dumpster from back to front.
DON'T throw things over the top.

We only have one dumpster available so we need to make sure everyone gets the message to fill it up efficiently and safely.  Please go through the open door and stack it as high as possible moving from the back wall toward the open door.  Please keep an open path between the sorting table and the outside gym doors.

    No hazardous or toxic waste.
    No tires, refrigerators, freezers, microwaves.
    No e-waste!*

*Try to send as much of this as possible to SAVERS after leftover groups pick up what they want: audio / stereo equipment, cell phones, computers, printers, phones, fax/copy machines, TVs, monitors, VCRs, DVD players, video cameras, video game consoles, wireless devices.

    SALE POLICIES

We cannot allow volunteers to help tie down large items on top of vehicles / in truck beds, etc because it is a liability issue.  You can help deliver to their vehicle, but please don't secure it.

Direct all customers to the cashiers rather than having volunteers on the floor accept money.    Ringers, please do not make deals or accept money - send them to the cashier instead.

Here are some helpful price guides that you can save to your phone for quick reference:

    TEAR DOWN
Our goal is to make it look like a rummage sale never happened!

If something is obviously broken, it should be thrown away in the dumpster but we try to donate any usable items to groups picking up leftovers. The metal recycling contact will take items even if they are broken so we can start making a pile around noon for things that are metal and will not sell. Anything leftover is taken by parents to DI / SAVERS / GOODWILL.

    PURCHASES & PERSONAL ITEMS

We won't have access to Room 100 (the chapel) until Thursday night so put personal items and purchases in the north east corner of the gym in the "HOLDS" area. When you are sorting and finding treasures before the sale... be sure to grab an empty box and write your name on it! Don't leave your treasures anywhere else lined up along the gym walls or on the kitchen counter because it will disappear. We want to have all volunteer purchases completed on Weds / Thurs nights before you leave because once customers arrive Friday morning, it's a circus! Everything gets packed up and donated or thrown away at the end!

You can pay by cash, check, or Venmo!
